Home » Medical gas monitoring
Within hospital facilities, medical gases such as oxygen, nitrous oxide and medical air are used in different departments such as intensive care units, operating theatres and wards. The monitoring of medical gases is a fundamental process for the safety and well-being of patients. The reference standard is the European standard EN 7396-1, which sets out the requirements for monitoring and alarm systems.
Device conforming to EN7396-1 and used for reading digital signals such as pressure switches and valve status, with LCD display. The module reports medium and high priority alarms in case of low or high pressure of the monitored gases.
The S120 module is a medical device used for alarm control in medical gas distribution systems and complies with EN7396-1. The device is used for reading digital signals such as pressure switches and valve status, with LED display.
The S130 module is a device used for the conversion of data transmission protocols in medical gas distribution systems. It is used as a device for the conversion of protocols at the physical level and for the amplification/reconstruction of RS422/RS485 electrical signals on long cable runs where attenuation of the signal level can compromise the integrity of transmitted alarm signals. Usage modes are RS485 repeater (dual channel), RS485 line duplicator, RS422 repeater (single channel) and RS232/RS485 converter (dual channel).
In combination with the S200.smartOxygen device or in 'stand-alone' mode, the S140-LTE telephone dialer, using the GSM network, enables notification of alarm conditions via voice calls, SMS and email. The device also complies with the EN7396-1 standard. If the thresholds set on the various sensors are exceeded, those responsible for the system will be promptly notified of the anomaly.
A device that acquires 4/20 mA analogue and digital signals from various transducers in the field, such as pressure transducers and pressure switches, and displays the detected alarms on an LCD display. The device complies with EN7396-1.
The supervision terminal shows the status of the system and any alarms. It manages the S140-LTE telephone dialer for sending alarm calls with voice messages, SMS and email. It also sends data to the industrial PC or Server using the LAN network and interfacing with the S190 module.
The S190 module has a dual function: firstly, it converts the eagleNet RS485 protocol into an Ethernet TCP/IP protocol, enabling the S200.smartOxygen module to connect to the facility's LAN network; secondly, it transmits the eagleNet protocol through the facility's LAN network using a pair of S190s, thus realising the 'tunnelling' function.
The SINTESY.eagle.gas software is a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system dedicated to monitoring medical gas distribution systems. The signals detected can be digital (pressure switches) or analogue (pressure transducers). Thanks to SYNTHESY.eagle.gas it is possible to monitor, in real time, the status of different environments, such as gas stations, hospital wards, intensive care units, operating theatres and other medical environments. The system is based on an extensive database and allows data to be reconstructed and visualised in tabular and graphical form. The database also stores all generated alarms, providing the date and time of activation and restoration to normal conditions. The system can be accessed by several users connected locally (Intranet) or remotely (Internet). Thanks to the Internet, the technicians responsible for the system are able to provide immediate support in the event of anomalies.
Medical gas monitoring is a critically important process, especially for the healthcare sector, i.e. patient care in hospital facilities.
